I've never pvp'd as I always saw it as unsustainable. If I pvp, I will eventually run out of isk and have to do something to build it back up. I know I'll get flamed with replies about how everyone catches officer fit tengus twice a day and such, but come on. We both now that is bs. Ur on top of the world to break even in a week.
I didn't post this to flame on pvp either. I want to pvp, or at least have it as an alternative to what I normally do which is lvl 5 missions. Occasionally probes pop up in my dscan and I just want to squeeze that person till their eyes pop out. I've never been scanned down. I will never be scanned down, so I'd love to be able to "flip the script" and go hunt them while they are hunting me. Better than just logging off or chatting the night away waiting for them to get bored.
I'm sorry. My question is, how do you guys afford to get so into pvp? I have to pay a plex once a month for my alt. Honestly I'd probably be ahead of the game if I pvp'd since I've lost 2 tengus and 2 basi in as many months.
Any tips?

Next time you buy plex use it to buy some stock instead and put it in a good hub, but not Jita, it's too active for casual trading. You will lose some money at first but after a while, when you've got a decent portfolio rolling it's the easiest isk in eve. This is a good guide to get you started. A bit old, but still relevant. http://www.thinkdreams.com/images/eve_docs/trading/TradingPvP.pdf
Man I certainly didn't expect this kind of help. So rare you ask a question about eve and actually get a straight answer. I have no idea what your talking about, but I will read the pdf and start learning today. Thanks. |

Yeah I lost one tengu in the hardest eve mission called Prison Break and another being stupid and jumping through low without a scout. Lost 2 basi in the same way at the same times.
Yeah I know I can't start pvping in a tengu, but I see all these ppl around here in T2 and faction stuff. I'm not very good at ship types if I haven't flown them myself; remembering what they do and how much they cost, but I know they probably cost 100m. Which is close to what I make doing an L5 mission. But still I don't want to have to fly a mission every time I lose a ship.
I guess the consensus is that I should start with T1/faction cruiser or below and find a fleet till I learn the ropes. When ever I see another ship in low it is on the dscan or I'm being killed. =) So I don't know how you can pick and choose who to fight with. It pretty much seems like when ever 2 or more ships cross paths they are going to fight. And if it is a mutual decision, why all the roaming business? Why not just go sit out front of a Hub station and duel?
I totally get probing out targets and dscanning ppl in belts or w/e and attacking them. In those instances you have a choice and some idea of what to expect. I don't know guess I need to do it to ever understand it.
Yeah I really do have a predispossion to use expensive mods and ships. I kinda think of pvp as pve where the better the tank/dps the better your chances are in a fight, but I think I may be wrong in this. Though, I'm not sure exactly how or where I'm wrong. |

I'm sorry, but I refuse to pay real money for isk. I know its no different to spend hours ingame making it. Actually it makes a lot more sense to buy plex now that I think about it. ATM the decision is made for me as I'm American and our country is currently falling apart. (Unemployed) =) |

Personally I could never get it to work. I use a program called evementat which seems to do me fine. You'll know what I'm talking about by the end of the week. Also, if you can be bothered to give up a couple of weeks training, train your 3 alts for planetary interaction. I do mine in a 0.3 system with 15 planets and that gets me close to 500 mill a month, give or take. Like most things in eve, they both take a bit of research and you'll probably feel like giving up early on but it's not long before you get a feel for where the money is. Good luck.
Yes I just started doing Pi again. I have a ways to go to make what ur making, but between alts and toon alts I should be able to eventually get that going pretty good. Yeah reading that pdf now. |

Schalac wrote:One FW level 4 mission is worth the same LP as 1 normal level 5 mission. FW missions take 5-10 minutes to complete depending on how many jumps you have to make. FW missions can be done in a 40 mil ISK stealth bomber easily. I think you are doing low sec missions wrong to be honest.
Dude 90m sp and you only started in 06? You must have had +5 implants since the first day. That's crazy. Yeah FW is ******* up LP like crazy. I heard it was getting a nerf this expansion, but I don't see the difference. L5's should really be more profitable than they are. The new AI is crazy too. The days of chatting while missioning are gone for sure. Yeah I know I should be flying something with more dps and a better tank. I may go dual mach. Esp. now that logi is insta aggro'd.
Thanks for the advice. |

Good questions. ISK and the loss of it, is a substantial part of the game. It is one of the big things that seperate this game from other mmos.
What I found was that by doing pvp I learned new ways to make isk. For example - its the pvp fits that get blown up all the time. So if I would buy extra mods for my pvp ships in jita and sell the extra at a low sec hub for 2 or 3xs the price. But if I never did pvp I wouldn't know what sorts of ammo or mods will sell well.
When ccp says they are buffing certain ships or mods you will have a better sense of which ones will really be useful and which ones won't. So you can buy up what is useful and resell it at a profit after the changes come. You can also sell of the ships/mods that will become less useful before the nerf.
As far as being sustainable it can be. You can do risk adverse pvp like gate camping in a group. You won't make much isk but you will almost never lose isk. For new players all sorts of pvp is new and exciting. Some players still do gatecamping after playing for years. For me that got, but you should make isk at doing that. [/quote]
Excellent. Great ideas. I have been giving this some thought too. The idea of selling items in low at a high mark up. I know I'd be willing to buy things at way over market price just to keep from having to go into highsec or near dodi or Jita. I'm beginning to see how it can be done. |
